Kalambaka, Greece
Its name comes from the Turkish word meaning “Powerful Fortress”. You will find Kalambaka in Greece’s northern region. The town is located on the foot hills of the Meteora Peaks. The main reason for tourist visiting here is to go and see the monasteries of Meteora. However, there is more to do. Check out the local shops and pick up some handmade wooden souvenirs or visit a restaurant and enjoy some local food. To reach Kalambaka you can take a daily train from Athens with a travel time of approximately 5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Athens or fly into Thessaloniki, the closest airport and take a bus for about 3 hours.
